The OEM originally supplied a 2060 alloy steel (AS) chain with 60 stainless steel split roller links with A2 attachments for this application. The spiral freezer tunnel experienced a premature life cycle due to the split roller opening up, causing the chain to fail; the chain has standard riveting causing the pins to rotate on the side plate caused by tension.
After inspection, Tsubaki designed 2060 high-strength stainless steel (HSS) constructed with different stainless steel grades and solid rollers. To combat the rotating pin issue, we recommended spun riveting. The design improvement resulted in a 20% higher than standard chain rating and increased the life of the chain by 36%.
